ABOUT US

The Mental Health Awareness Committee (MHAC), is a student group based at Queen's University. It is dedicated to raising awareness about mental illness and reducing the stigma that has become ingrained in the discussion of mental health, primarily through contact-based education. MHAC acts to provide information about resources both on and off campus to students. MHAC strives to be anti-oppressive and non-judgemental, and works to educate around the intersection of mental illness and mental health with other facets of oppression and identity.

MENTAL HEALTH EVENTS

PAINT NIGHT

CULTURAL MARKET

Hosted a Mental Health Paint Night to help students destress before midterms. The event was not only a fun, creative outlet but also an opportunity to explore the therapeutic benefit of painting. Painting has been shown to reduce stress and improve self-esteem. Connecting with others in a relaxed, creative setting can be incredibly beneficial, offering support and reducing feelings of isolation often experienced during stressful academic periods. The event highlighted the importance of taking breaks, engaging in creative activities, and connecting with others, which are essential for maintaining a balanced and healthy mental state.

The Cultural Market brought together an array of cultural clubs, each showcasing their traditions. This event was more than just a celebration of diversity; it was a testament to the power of unity and understanding in enhancing mental well-being. Students from various backgrounds shared cultures through music, dance and food. The turnout was remarkable, and is crucial in breaking down barriers and promoting mental health through social support and cultural awareness. The success of the Cultural Market highlights the importance of embracing diversity. We are very excited to be hosting this event again this year!

BASKETBALL SHOOTOUT

The Movember Basketball Shootout, hosted this past November was more than just a game; it was a powerful movement towards acknowledging and supporting mental health issues. By focusing on a sport that resonates with many, we created an engaging platform to start important conversations and raise awareness about mental health challenges. We are very grateful to all participants, volunteers and sponsors who helped make this event a success. The event showed that every shot on net can be a shot towards a brighter, healthier future for men’s mental health.
